Pier Compaction Performance Indicator™ (PCPI)
The PCPI uses model pier deflective values to alert the operator to “real-time” precise compaction progress in order to produce uniformly constructed foundation support.
Engineering Control. The model pier parameters for compaction stiffness for each project are developed and presented to the operator during construction through the PCPI. As variation in matrix soil materials are encountered, due to changes in soil and groundwater, the compaction operator will continue ramming until the model pier parameters are met. This provides greater subgrade stiffness uniformity for a project in both plan and cross-section views. If it is not possible to attain the Model Pier Parameters, the operator will be able to immediately notify the on-site QA/QC personnel.
Operator Control. The compaction machine operator receives “real time” progress of compaction with each ramming cycle. He can observe the progress through an on-board screen, and easily see when the model pier values have been met. Additionally, if the model pier values have not been met the design team has the opportunity to investigate and if necessary redesign. This results in overall job site savings and improved quality.
